Esther Polak (1962) studied graphic art and mixed media and is interested in how technology determines (visual) perception.

Ivar van Bekkum (1965) studied journalism and worked as (graphic) designer. He is interested in how technological art can function in an autonomous-art historical context.

Since the beginning of 2010 Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum collaborate full-time in the development of their artistic projects. They are best known from their technological landscape pieces: GPS projects, Google Earth and work with helium balloons.

In their projects Polak and Van Bekkum manage to strip technology of its nerdy riffraff, and instead use it for making comprehensible visualizations and telling human stories.

Artist Statement

The energy of the morning is fluid. It grows stronger and warmer over time. A small machine manages to catch up and translate this orbit and its daily differences.
