Johanna Gustafsson Fürst
Johanna Gustafsson Fürst is an artist, born and based in Stockholm. In 2003, she gained an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Her practice consists of context-based and site-sensitive installations, which configure and stage the interplay between social situations and architectural structures. Her works deal with the confrontations between different aesthetics and social conventions. Gustafsson Fürst was a co-founder of the artist run gallery, ak28 and worked with the project between 2004 and 2008. Since 2008 she collaborates with Kista Theatre, a platform for art and theatre, based in Kista-Rinkeby in Stockholm, where she has been developing projects which investigate theatre, urban planning and architecture. The area around Kista is characterised by a diversity of different cultural groups and cutting-edge research. Kista Theatre works with these conditions and aims to create ways to facilitate participatory actions in the public space. Through collaborating with Kista Theatre, Gustafsson Fürst has become increasingly interested in creative fusions between technology, social theory, urban planning, architecture and other fields beyond the realm of the visual arts. Gustafsson Fürst has, for instance, developed a digital tool for Smartphones, I’m Your Body, which is an open-source institution for distribution and communication of interventions in public space.
